Newsletter - June 2010

Weather
Blue skies, bright sunny days and cold nights have defined this month.  The day temperatures are lovely and mild. Night temperatures can drop to freezing but this is unusual.  We expect this kind of weather to continue until the end of July.

Wildlife and Landscape

As the land is dry, we enjoy more and more game at the waterhole in front of camp.  Animals move in and out all day but the peak time is from mid-morning until about 15h00.

The June nights were filled with the wonderful sounds of hyaena. Towards the end of the month they quietened down a lot however, as a very vocal pride of lion moved in. The lion have been regular visitors to the waterhole and their soul-shaking calls rattle every corner of the camp.

The waterhole is also a regular haunt for both black and white rhino and they often visit us at dinner time.

Camp rebuilds and upgrades

Four of our exciting units are being converted into two separate family units.  Families can soon enjoy two tents joined by a safe and elevated walkway.

Managers and guides

Charles and Annalie are still going strong with the help of their very competent assistant managers Sakkie and Lona.  Francois, previously our very charming barman, joined the management team and is now responsible for administration.  Our two guides, Frans and Shilongo, are still as passionate as ever and ready to share our beautiful area with new guests.
