Receives highest award possible for environmental standard July 2010 - With 95% compliance of the stringent Green Leaf Environmental Standard, Rocktail Beach Camp has become the very first camp, hotel or lodge in Africa to receive this highest environmental award. The Platinum Leaf Award was presented by Dr Ian Player to Safari Adventure Company (a brand within Wilderness Safaris) at a ceremony at Indaba held in Durban in May 2010. The Green Leaf Standard is a measure for environmental, social and economic impacts in the tourism industry. Without compromising quality and the experience, the Green leaf Environmental Standard measures the effects of consumption on the environment while inspiring environmental and social change. Safari Adventure Company hopes to include more of their camps in the future in the Standard, as responsible environmental consciousness is one of the company's primary goals and central to its raison d'être. Safari Adventure Company encourages all other safari operators, hotels and companies to engage in environmental best practice, for the future of our wilderness areas, our children and our spirit. Rocktail Beach Camp is set in the sanctuary of the lush Maputaland Coastal Forest on South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal coast. With the Maputaland Marine Reserve just offshore and the beach a brisk 20-minute walk from the camp, there are world-class diving and snorkelling, remote, unspoilt beaches and other beach adventures to be had.
